When relocating, there's a lot to remember and to do. With much of it (including packing all your shoes and dishes, and planning your driving route with hotel stops) you're on your own. But a real estate agent local to the city you're relocating to can make parts of the move much easier. If you're considering relocating without the aid of an agent, reconsider now.
What the agent can do:
. Help you find an apartment or home in your new location that meets your needs and your budget.
. Provide you with community information, crime statistics, and demographics for your new area.
. Provide you with market and home value information for different neighborhoods. The agent may also perform a Comparative Market Analysis for any homes you're interested in to determine whether the asking price is fair.
. Disclose any real estate trends, such as home appreciation or depreciation rate for areas you're interested in.
. Guide you to local shopping centers, banks, and other amenities.
. Tell you about local attractions and recreational opportunities.
The real estate agent is your most valuable resource when relocating, and although it may sound too good to be true, his or her services will probably come free to you since he or she will be paid by the seller of a home you buy, or the landlord of a property you rent. So if you're relocating, don't leave the selection of a real estate representative till the last minute.
